SUE LOVES a well written historical romance. TODAYS rec is Unexpected Circumstances by Savage.

As you guessed our ever changing Edward is a knight and he wins himself a bride by winning a tournament. He is given the choice by the king that he can pick any eligible maiden. Everyone at the tournament expects him to choose the princess.

He chooses the handmaiden of the princess and ROYALLY pisses off, well, the royalty. It is here where the fun begins. (get your minds outta the gutter)
He marries the handmaiden much to the chagrin of the royal family.

She is a young virgin and he is well not. THIS is not something our Prince expected he thought she would be as loose a woman as the princess. WRONG She was too busy sewing and fetching bath water to be making hey in the hay loft with the stable boys. Poor Edward, he is gonna have to train his wife and she is shy and well, lets be honest, frightened of him. After all she is 16 and he is 25. She has always been a servant and he can decide whether people live or die! He wants her to ready and willing in her own time. BUT FIRST he has to win her trust because lets face it, no matter how pretty Edward is if you are scared shitless of him and do not know what to expect, you are not gonna wanna be banging him like a drum! 

Now just because the fic has not gotten to the sexy yet does not mean that it won't. This is Savage we are talking about here. (you know Hide and Drink, Surviving Bella) I have complete faith that it will get to the sexy VERY soon. In the mean time this fic gives us some mighty HOT kissing and some lovely introduction to intimacy for our shy young Bella.


NOW before you start saying GRoSS 16 and 25 I have to say get over it. This is a period fic. Women were often betrothed at age 14 or younger. By age 16 she would have been popping out babies

WHY do I like this fic? Well in it we have intrigue, suspense and a clumsy Bella that is not the stereotype. Her clumsiness comes more from her class distinction. She goes from being servant to wife of a prince. A WHOLE different set of rules that Edward was foolish enough to NOT prepare her for.

WHAT IS IT WITH MEN and their lack of communication! 

SO if you, like me, enjoy a good period fic with sexy consequences and you like politics set in an era of knights and kings THIS is the fic for you.

Surviving Bella

Spending time on a sailboat on the sea should be the time of your life! But when the ship sinks, Captain Edward and passenger Bella end up in a life raft together. Can they survive the elements and their colliding pasts? M for mature themes/language

OH my what a twisted tale Savage tells. If you have read any of her stuff you know this. She writes a great bad boy and we all love the bad boys don't we? You know, the kind of jerk you just wanna make have a breakdown and turn kinda sort of good... ish. We do not want them completely rehabed and turned into, well, a pink polo wearing softy. We want the swearing, we want the possessive thoughts, we want the smooshy bedtime cuddling....

I am a fan of shows like Survivorman and that guy that stays at hotels and the husband and wife team that eat worms for lunch, so this kinda fic is right up my alley.

This is a fantasy romance heart clencher with plenty of giggles.

A boat sinks. The asshole of a drunken captain and a mousy passenger are the only ones on an inflatable life raft with only a few things to survive under very intense conditions.

Sadly there is no rum...

You have a heavy boozing Edward, that is rough gruff and low on cigarettes (heaven forbid!) and a, well, quiet Bella that talks to him like she is rehabing a pitbull. YES so cool to listen to the interactions!

I think of it as survivor meets fight club meets gilligans island (stole that from her) meets some movie with great couple banter...

You will love and hate this Edward.

This Bella starts out as mousy and kinda afraid of him (but can you really blame her? He is an ass!) and then BAM she stops being annoying and Bella-ish. She gets her backbone and we get to see she has strength.

Lets Get Physical 

 The Goal: Lose 70lbs. The Prize: One steamy night with her personal trainer. When overweight Bella is left by her husband, she is determined to lose weight with the help of Edward Masen. What starts off as payback ends up as so much more.


Trying to come up with something witty as an intro for this post and I am failing badly so I will ramble.


Lalina was my first ever interview back over a year ago when we started this blog. If you have not read any of her stuff then I suggest you start now and the one you should start with is Let's Get Physical I think it is her best yet !
This fic is about a fat Bella with low self esteem her husband James who we meet in the first chapter is... well an ass they separate and Bella wants to makeover her life.


She was not always heavy but as many of us know time is not always kind to the body. Bella has some serious things she has to work through in this story
She has a perfect body image in mind and that sabotages her efforts to makeover her own life.


Now we are all (mostly) girls here and we know that there is always something you are not going to like about yourself: wrinkles, greying hai,r the pouch of a stomach after having kids, strech marks, thighs, teeth not white enough, arms not tone enough. We look in the mirror and we do not see the airbrushed perfect image of US that we want to see.


What I LOVE about this fic is that Bella is like that. She is very real in her self hatred. What I love even more is that as time goes on she is going to learn to love things about herself she has never thought to look at before


SO my preachy side is gonna come out now we as women are too hard on ourselves we see beauty in pictures and magazines an image of perfection that for many is unattainable.


I think the best quote from a beautiful woman fits here very well

Now, Edward in this fic. Oh golly how does he fit in.
Edward is a personal trainer. Yeah he gets paid to work out. Poor Bella goes into this gym HOPING to get a female trainer and finds the only one available is this young beautiful guy.
How humiliating!
The thing I like about this is that, AS Edward gets to know Bella, he sees the beauty in her it has nothing to do with her body or her looks. It is who she is.
No love at first site let me save you and make you mine kinda thing THIS one has a process and both characters have to grow into it

Tangled Up In Blue

Edward Cullen is looking for inspiration to write THE American novel. Bella Swan is looking for inspiration, any inspiration, to pull her from her doldrums existence. But what they find in each other, neither of them could have expected.


You know what I have nothing witty to say this morning. The kids are screaming and arguing over whether or not 5yr old Nik does indeed have Jammie socks.
I have long ago given up the illusion of being able to say that I truly understand my kids.
Now where was I cause I got interuptted by the kids again asking about socks ...just a minute EMOTEEN 1 needs some redirection..


The point? When your a mom writing is anything but easy even the nonsense I put up here.


This story is about Bella who always wanted to be an author, well real life got in her way. Kids, a husband ,cleaning gum out of the carpet, trying to determine that mystery stain in the carpet and not really wanting to know the answer ...


She gets a chance to do something different. For one week a year she goes on a writers retreat.


Just reading that I started singing heaven ..I'm in heaven.. and my heart beats so that I can hardly ... BOYS!! STOP IT! MOMMY IS BUSY!

Through the course of these retreats we get to know Bella and oddly enough Edward is another writer and he is at the retreat.


THAT'S right Bella and Edward are NOT married in this fic
She is married to Jake
He is engaged to someone else
This story goes on the thought that Bella and Edward are the soul mates we like to think of them as so  what would have happened if fate made them not meet in high school? Does that connection still exist even though they are devoted to others ? If so what do they do about it?


OK the author and I talked for HOURS (not that that is anything new I am a talker!) we had so much fun ! wish you all could have been there

I saw this story rec'd on Twitter. Lately that is where I am getting my fic recs from. Do not let the name of the fic fool you, this is NOT about a boxing Bella. NOPE in this fic the 'million dollar part' refers to what was paid for her services.


NOW I want to warn you this is not a fic for everyone.

This fic deals with sexual slavery

Let me try to explain further WHY I am recommending it:
First off, Bella WILLINGLY sells herself and her virginity to the highest bidder. She does this because her mother is dying and they do not have the money to pay for the medical care for her. The deal she makes is 5yrs of her life where she will live as a slave to whoever buys her. Enter Edward. YUP, you guessed it, he buys her.


I think the neatest thing about this fic is how, when you hear that Bella sold herself, you assume she has lost control of her life. I like the little ways that she is in control of things. Also she has no idea the power she has over Edward and he has no idea the power he has over her.


Sure there is the hot physical stuff but you KNOW that these two are fighting real emotions. She keeps things from him like the ability to call her 'Bella'. It is her way of distancing herself from him.


Of course she is physically attracted to him but she does not want to fall for him because, who would? A man that would buy a woman for his own pleasure surely cannot be a good man.


SO lets read the interview about the story. Maybe some insight from the author will convince you to read it!

SO what can I tell you about the fic Coming Through The Rye OTHER than it has a guy in it who is a scot?

I'm kidding! This fic, written by Mac214, is about Bella. She is in lusty love with her best friend Edward, who happens to be in the US on a work visa.

Edward is dating someone else, Senna.

What happens when Edward loses his job due to cutbacks? How will he be able to stay in the US?

Well, he'll marry an American of course!

SO, he and Bella marry for conveinience,

AND the adventures just start from there.

What we have here is a comedy of errors and romance, with Scot sayings thrown in for good measure.

This is a feel good fic, with warm fuzzies and bonny knobs

Here is how she puts it :

"I'd never been one of those women who found foreign accents sexy until I met Edward. Now, even plaid made me horny." Bella is in love with her best friend, Scottish expat Edward, and she'll do anything for him. Anything.
