SUE's interview with rpgirl26 author of Enchante

here is a link to her FFnet page
OK here we go again I found another Period Romantic drama!! She is RPgirl26 over at Twilighted and RPgirl27 over at FFnet I gave you the FFnet link

I swear this one is different I mean it!

This fic is set in New Orleans and well golly how do I describe it

Edward is an ass

Bella is passing for white (remember time periods my lovelies!) so her options in this life are even more limited than a white woman

She can go north cut off all ties with her family and pass for white but without family she would not be able to make a good marriage

She can marry a lower class man (remember at this time a girl passing for white was still considered too black to be white but too white to be black does that make sense? basically she would be ostracized from both sides of society)

OR

she can enter into an arrangement with a man where she is not a wife but is supported by him basically it is a glorified whore

here RPgirl can explain it better

1858- Edward wins a plantation during a poker game and he and his father decide to begin a new life in New Orleans. What happens when Edward is introduced to a peculiar custom and a beautiful girl at a private ball?

SO why does SUE love this fic??
First I love The Bella in period fics because the shy thing works better there in my opinion This Bella has an understated strength about her like many women had to have at this time

THIS is not your typical Edward For one thing he is not a romantic. He does not feel love for Bella he does not understand what is going on and is focused on dealing with his father's expectations for him

I for one look forward to watching their relationship develop within the confines of this arrangement and society at the time

NOW why do I think you should read it?

As period fics go this one has a very different plot unlike most where the love is there from the start this one focuses more on the need or the "pull" both know that the other is not good for them both know that relationship can only go so far because of how society was set up at the time

THE other reason you should read it well check out RPgirl27s profile she knows her stuff so while it is fiction we will get something that does not take too much license with history (that is a pet peeve of mine when it comes to historical romance unless the author makes it clear that it is fantasy)

So this one looks like a great ride
After reading her interview you will find that she is funny and snarky and a weirdo and geez I love that in a person !! She also has a healthy obsession with a certain boy ... makes me respect her

AND SO in honor of my fellow Pattinperv this post will be full of delicious RobPorn that may or may not have anything to do with the story

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What was it that gave you the ‘spark’ for your story?   Was it a picture? A moment or event? Can you remember the initial inspiration?
I don't really remember. I just wanted to write something that hadn't been done before and on a subject that interested me. In a fandom with a hundred thousand stories, that's absurdly difficult. The idea sat in the back of my mind poking at me for several months before I finally sat down and mapped it out.
2. Do you have a particular process when it comes to your writing, perhaps a certain mood, environment or music? Do you have any ‘triggers’ to get you in the writing mood?
I always have music on, but it rarely has anything to do with the story unless one of the characters specifically mentions a piece, or like in the first few chapters where they are at a ball. I do have to be in the right mood. If I'm not feeling it at the moment, I'm not going to bother forcing myself because I'll just have to erase it all later. I usually write everything out on paper first because if I'm sitting at the computer, I'll constantly be flipping between what I'm writing, Twitter, blogs, etc. I'm easily distracted. I know some people like to drink while they write, but I don't drink much anymore and when I do, it's usually to get smashed, so that's not really conducive to coherent writing.
3. Give us an elevator pitch. Say you’re in an elevator with a prospective reader for 2 minutes – what would you tell them about the story?
 It would probably be a rather silent ride. I'm about as fond of self-promotion as KStew or Rob LOL. I'm far more likely to pitch other people's stories than I am my own.
4. Do you picture particular actors for your characters, or are they someone else entirely? If so, who?
It's generally the movie cast with the exception of KStew, it just wouldn't be possible for her to play this Bella. I don't really picture any RL person in that role. Rob is always Edward, end of story.
5. Is the story all planned out or do you do it as a fly by the seat of your pants thing?
It's mostly planned out, but there is room for me to change my mind.
Do you have a Beta and would you like to give him/her a shoutout here?
I have a few actually. Binky gets it first, pre-reads and finds any obvious errors, then I send it to two different girls I met thru PTB, Shelle87 and Emma. They get really in-depth on the grammar and punctuation and probably bemoan my complete lack of ability in deciding where a comma is supposed to go.
6. Have you got any other projects going on? Any planned for the future?
I don't have anything else going on at the moment. I have a fairly concrete plan for a fic after this, but it would involve a LOT of research. There's a one-shot I want to write, but it would be a tragedy and I'm going to have to go to a really dark place to write that; it's based on a Bobby Long song.
7. What was it that brought you to Twilight fanfic?  What is it that has kept you here (besides your own writing)
I had never heard of fanfiction before I started haunting Rob blogs in May 2009. Someone rec'd I Love LA by feathersmmmm and I devoured that and moved on to Wide Awake by AngstGoddess003, which I have re-read so many times, it's probably burned into my retinas.
I'm still here because...it keeps me entertained, I guess. And I have so many online friends that I adore.
8. Do you have a background in writing?
Meh, kinda sorta. I always took advanced English courses in school and they usually required quite a bit of writing. I took a few in college as well.
9. How about your creative self-confidence?  By nature writers tend to be a notoriously insecure lot so how are you finding the online writing experience?
It's been really good actually. I'm pretty open to criticism; it's not going to bother me if people tear it apart for their own amusement. *shrugs* I never do that though. If I don't like something, I just click the box and move on to the next story. I don't get any pleasure from hurting other people's feelings, but I accept that if you put your stuff out there, there will always be people who are more than willing to be assholes.
10. Do you tell your friends and family that you’re an online author with a devoted following, or is this something that you tend to keep for yourself?
My husband, mom, dad, brother and his wife (who reads it- *embarrassed face*) and most of my friends know, but they all have strange obsessions too, so they have no room to criticize. My in-laws don't because they would blow a gasket. They are a wee bit on the super-conservative side.
12.  Is there a particular character in your story that you identify with the most?
Bella and Edward both have a bit of me in them. Edward has trouble displaying emotions because of how he was brought up; I can identify with that, but not for the same reasons. Bella is always looking for the best in people, and is prone to forgiving things she probably shouldn't; I do that because I don't like people being upset with me.
13. Which RL author(s) inspires you?
My husband built me two floor-to-ceiling oak bookshelves. He's good with his hands *cough*.
The first one I'll label "Completely and Utterly Pretentious-Looking Reading and Research Material." It consists mainly of non-fiction historical books on my favorite topics such as the history of race, religion and politics, as well as the history of England (all of it, but with emphasis on the Victorian period), Ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, the American Civil War + Antebellum and Reconstuction, some WW1 & WW2, and a few on Colonial/British America.
The second one I'll label "Books I Read Over and Over Until I Found Twi-fic." And that holds every book Anne Rice ever wrote (even the smutty ones she wrote under pseudonyms), Elizabeth Peters, Hemingway, Colleen McCullough, Tolstoy, Faulkner, Dickens, the Brontes, Stephenie Meyers and Kerouac amongst many others. The aforementioned husband said we're never moving again because 3/4s of the boxes are filled with heavy books and it's a pain in his ass. Pffft.
I'm a book nerd and always have been. I grew up dirt poor and didn't have many friends (perhaps because I was a complete dork) so I've read voraciously since the age of 4.
Ps. I also have a hidden collection of anonymous Victorian Erotica. Why people think the Victorian Age was full of uptight a-sexuals I'll never know, because they wrote some of the dirtiest smut I've ever seen. If you're bored sometime, browse Amazon; they've been reprinting and reissuing banned and privately printed books from the era....lasciviously fascinating.
14. Did any FF authors inspire you?   What was it that had you reading FF and thinking “I could do this”?
*giggles* It was probably more like, "I'm gonna suck at this, but I think I'll inflict it on other people anyway!"
I love following other fic authors on Twitter. They make me LOL all the time, especially KiyaRaven, AngstGoddess003, Vican, so many others. I love their stories and I love and admire their feisty attitudes.
15. What advice would you give to an aspiring fanfic writer?
Don't pull your fic just because somebody says something mean to you. It's going to happen; you can count on it. It might even be so mean and untrue, you spend the better part of a week thinking about it and wanting to hurl. Yes, there's a story behind this and no, I'm not talking about it. BRB, going to hurl again.
16. Give us a Random Fact about yourself?
I can give you a bunch; I'm full of randomness. I live on coffee, diet Pepsi and Marlboros. I'm a cafeteria Catholic, liberal Obamacrat, CNN/BBC junkie. I advocate for Minority rights, Gay rights, decriminalization of marijuana, universal healthcare, making immigration easier instead of harder. I love English football more than any other sport and I cheered for them in the WC instead of the US. If someone called me a "Twimom" I'd flip shit. I have an embarrassing amount of RobPorn on my laptop. I have no problem with porn as long as it's between consenting adults, but I prefer amateur internet porn. Vibrators scare me (see texture sensitivity). I have the sense of humor and sex drive of a 15yr old boy. I'm a complete claustrophobe (I am a rock, I am an iiiiislaaaaaaand), touch and texture sensitive, and I'll ritualize everything-from how I shower to the way my laundry gets put away. I'm brutally honest about myself *looks up* and only lie to my MIL because (paraphrasing Jack Nickolson here) she can't handle the truth---about anything.
17. If you could have 15 minutes with any Edward FF or SMs which one would you choose and what would you do?
If you do not LIKE any of the Edwards feel to substitute an actor here. Rob, Kellan, PFach or Jackson or my personal favorite Colin.*SIGH*(taking a moment to contemplate Colin) any actor at all really
There's plenty of Edwards I love, but I'd throw them all away for 15mins with Robert Pattinson-I find him absolutely fascinating. We don't even have to be fucking (though I'm sure that would be great).
18. What is your FanFic Pet peeve?
When authors find a word they really like and use it over and over again in the same chapter.
Really strange descriptions in smut like, "He plunged into my molten hot core." Makes me picture a plumber stuck trying to unclog a volcano.
When fanfic.net starts dumping smutty fics because they are against the TOS. I know it's against the rules, but seriously, they only do it when some asshole who doesn't like the author reports it.
19. What is your Fandom Pet peeve?
The preoccupation with Robsten. If they're fucking, great; if they're not, I'm fine with that too. I don't have any problem with KStew, at least she's not some bimbo-arm candy-Hollywood-cookie cutter-moron, but I don't pay much attention to the Robsten stuff. I only have time to internet-stalk Rob. I hate it when the ridonkulous back and forth argument starts on Twitter and blogs. People always get their feelings hurt and nothing ever gets solved anyway. WASTE OF TIME IMO!
20. What do you want to be when you grow up?
For a long time, I wanted to be like Christiane Amanpour and be one of the only prominent female international war correspondents, but then I realized how much time I'd have to spend in airplanes and that doesn't jive with my whole claustrophobia issue. Then I thought I would work in a state museum, but apparently you have to kill someone and take their job, especially when the economy sucks. I'm taking law classes right now, which I really like, but I can't afford to go to law school so I'll probably end up as someone's secretary. When my kid is somewhat grownup, I'd really like to drag him along and do international humanitarian aid work. IDK, I just want to do something that has value, pays decently, and people don't bitch at me all day.
21. Anything else you would like to add?
Nope, I think I've skeered enough people for today, thanks!
I have no idea what that sentence turned blue I swear I did not do it!
AND on that note I need a cigarette and a shower *WHEW* hope you enjoyed that as much as I did let me know what you like better
