Sue's interview with Mac214 author of Relative Wind

Relative Wind
 THIS FIC has been pulled by the author Mac is pursuing a career as a published author NO this story will not be published Mac is working on writing original work and going the traditional publishing route. We at SYTYCW wish her all the best of luck with her goals, and we want to thank her for entertaining us with her stories while they were available.

FIRST a warning

This interview contains SPOILERS about 2 of this authors fics SO if you like your surprises to remain intact then just listen to this GO READ HER STUFF here is a link to  Mac's FFnet page you can see her fics there trust me when I say the fics are worth the read

I'll wait for those who hate fics being spoiled to leave the blog and go read like I told them to

*peek* are they gone?

WHEW good I hate upsetting people when I spoil things

NOW onto my talk about Relative Wind

OH MY MOUGARWARD

I love you with an insurmountable passion!

You are the mature older man of my dreams
of course you are roughly my age!
If only most men your age were in as good condition *SIGH*

I started reading this when I saw it on twitter at the time there were 2 chapters up

I got all excited so I read the first chapter

HOT

then got to the second chapter and WOAH what a surprise !

you'll know if you read it!

The Mougar cometh! A steamy day at the drop zone turns into more than Bella bargains for when she meets her new roommate's father. A tale of May-December relationships, father-daughter dynamics, and the happiest hooha in Philadelphia. Very citrusy. AH.
I really cannot articulate WHY this fic makes me happy to read it

so lets have a check list

  • Hot Edward
  • Interesting unique circumstances
  • Young Bella that is not irritating
  • no unrealistic bad guy
  • not overly sappy
  • good sex scenes
  • FUNNY
  • a fantastic unique bestie
OK enough of my babbling lets see what Mac had to say in our REALLY long amusing Gchat As a reward for being spoiled I give you sprinkled throughout this post hot older men!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What was it that gave you the ‘spark’ for your story? Was it a picture? A moment or event? Can you remember the initial inspiration?
mac: Sure, it was rattling around in my head for a while. I sky dive once or twice a year, and I hadn't seen another fic that involved sky diving. I was thinking about ideas for a plot while I was driving home from work one night and thought it might be fun to make Edward a tandem instructor and Bella a little younger.
The idea for Alice being his daughter turned up a few days later. heh!
Sue: Alice being his adult daughter was brilliant I did not expect it AT ALL (this interview will come with a spoiler alert BTW)
mac: Good, I'm glad - I like being able to do surprising things.
Do you have a particular process when it comes to your writing, perhaps a certain mood, environment or music? Do you have any ‘triggers’ to get you in the writing mood?
mac: No, not really. I'm am, luckily, able to write anywhere - sometimes it's at the coffee shop down the street from work or sitting in my car or on my couch. I do admit that sometimes it was hard to get in the mood to write Ultio because it's so dark and had a very particular voice. But with RW, it's usually pretty easy to get the words out.
 Give us an elevator pitch. Say you’re in an elevator with a prospective reader for 2 minutes – what would you tell them about the story?
mac: Oh... well. I suck at self-promotion, but I'd probably tell a reader that RW doesn't stick to the usual characterizations, it's a good foil to the all the angst floating around the fandom right now, and there's a fun surprise that no one ever guesses. And there's lots o' lemons!
And Mike isn't a total douchebag.
me: I LOVE MIKE
I want a mike in my life
mac: Mike is also based on a very good friend of mine. Heh!
Mike doesn't get enough love in the fandom
me: no he does not Mike tends to be the bad guy or the dork or the gay foil
which is a shame
to me it is like making all the women hate each other
mac: It gets boring to read fics where the bad guys are always James, Mike, or Jake. It's entirely too predictable. I mean, where's the surprise?
And don't get me started on the idea of women all hating each other. Grrr.
me: yeah soon as you hear the name you go OHHH that is the bad guy
I live in a small town and while there is bitching going on back and forth you RARELY see the kind of animosity among the women of a town
mac: I know writing Edward as the bad guy doesn't go over very well, but it would be such an awesome red herring.
me: I read a fic where Edward was on Death Row for murder
he was a serial killer
mac: Was he guilty?
me: non vamp
YES
he admitted it
mac: URL?
Was he a genuine bad guy, or was he reformed?
me: not reformed
and not really sorry
mac: Nice!
me: Bella was sent to interview him
hang on it is over at Twi
here you answer this while I go look for it
Do you picture particular actors for your characters, or are they someone else entirely? If so, who?
mac: So Edward in RW is always a cross between RPatz and Brad Pitt. This photo in particular:
Dude, Brad is RW Edward's age and still completely hot
I don't picture Bella or Alice as anyone in particular
me: I LOVE BRAD PITT even with the stupid beard Brad is amazing
mac: Jasper Jr looks like Jackson.
me: brown hair or stupid wig?
mac: his natural hair but dyed blonde. NOT the stupid wig. Ugh.
me: WHEW
mac: We talked about who Jasper Sr. looked like on the twi'd thread, but now I can't remember who we decided on. There were some hot choices! And Charlie is less attractive than Billy Burke. ;-p
me: NOOOO I love the porn stash he is amazing
mac: I just can't take Billy Burke as a dad seriously. He's too hot for that
me: true
(SUE is throwing in some mature man eye candy just for a little treat to you readers. you are welcome!)
mac: I always want Charlie to be older and more grizzled.
There is the link to the fic I was telling you about
Was the story all planned out or do you do it as a fly by the seat of your pants thing
mac:
Pretty much everything I write is well-plotted.
Ultio was plotted to within an inch of its life. RW is plotted by a little more loosely... just basic ideas of what should happen when.
Making it as you go is scary... I think you could easily lose control and go off the reservation and end up with a meandering, never-ending 80 chapter fic
Have you got any other projects going on? Any planned for the future?
This is a chance for you to also pimp that fabulous contest which right now has only 1 wonderful entry and then also mine LOL (Since this interview the contest has had more entries and voting has begun! go check them all out at Monster in law contest)
mac: Yep. I just submitted a o/s for the Me and Mr. McCarty contest called The Stiletto Talisman, and that will be expanded to a multi-chapter when the contest ends. It's been plotted out for months waiting for RW and Ultio to come to an end. It's an Emmett-centric fic and it's a bit on the crack-fic-y side. All the Cullens are there though, and it's AU. The other thing that's in the works is a fic that is not named yet, but it involves a Scottish Edward. And yes, he will wear a kilt in one scene. ;-p
Oh, and 22blue and I are considering doing another collaboration down the road.
me: Only one scene? OH is this the Rugby playing Edward?
mac: Rugby loving and shinty playing!
me: notice I skip over all of that and focus on the kilt!
I got a bit of a thing for kilts
mac: Hah! Well, Edward in a kilt is a lovely thing.
me: almost any man in a kilt is lovely thing
ALMOST
mac: I've read a fic or two with a kilt wearing Edward, but this is - I think - way different than those
me: and the Monster in law contest
dont make me pull teeth
mac: Heh! I'm a judge for the MIL contest, so sadly I can't submit anything. I wish I could though...
I have some funny ideas to use for that.
me: I know but as a judge that is something you are doing
I will be judging the Trailer Trash Cullen contest hosted by the the fabulous Itzmegan !!
mac: True enough! I've read a few entries for it so far, and I'm also a judge for Jen Barry's original fic contest.
me: and the soap opera one (forget the name right now)
mac: Trailer Trash, eh? I didn't know there was a soap opera contest. I'm always the last to know! Hah!
me: LOL Twilight AWards has a listing of all of the contests that they get told about
What was it that brought you to Twilight fanfic? What is it that has kept you here (besides your own writing)
mac: So last year I was downsized at work, and leaving me to my own devices is a bad idea. I suck at not having anything to do. I had just finished the saga at the time and accidentally found Twilighted one day. Having too much free time wasn't an issue then! After a few weeks, plot bunnies started hopping through my head so I started writing.
What has kept me here are the people. I've made some AMAZING friends in the fandom
There's always some kind of stupid drama brewing, but generally not in my circle of friends.
me: I giggle at drama it makes me laugh
mac: I usually hear about it and don't quite understand what it's about... mostly because I don't really know who is involved. I think that's a good thing. ;-p
Do you have a background in writing? Has the fanfic experience expanded your creativity?
mac: I do. I have a degree in English and have been writing since I learned how to read. I have some poetry and a short story published in a very MINOR anthology, and my first job was writing for a local newspaper. I write a lot for work (although not creatively) too. The thing fanfic has been great for is giving me the confidence that I can write a novel length work. Up until last year, I didn't think I could have the stamina to do so.
me: why does the word stamina make me giggle sorry I am really 12
UGh
Ok
mac: Must be all those lemons. ;-p
me: must be
same thing happens when someone says throbbing headache
I giggle
mac: Throoooooooooooooooooobbing!
me: hubs got mad at me when I asked which head
LOL
I could not help it
mac: With some men, they are the same. Heh!
me: I take that as a sign that the word throbbing has been overused
mac: Throbbing. Heated core. Dripping pussy. Yeah.
me: ewwww if your pussy is dripping time to go to a doc
or wipe
they have creams for that
mac: Seriously. That's just creepy
How about your creative self-confidence? By nature writers tend to be a notoriously insecure lot so how are you finding the online writing experience?
mac: Well, I fully admit that I'm shocked anyone willingly reads anything I've written. ;-p
But I try not be too insecure because that's just annoying.
After receiving death threats for Love Park, I have a bit of a thicker skin for bad reviews too. Hah!
 I'm also firmly all about writing what I want to write instead of writing what others think I should write... so that works out.
me: you got death threats?
mac: Yeah, can you believe it? All because Bella doesn't end up with Edward in the end (which is spoilery if you haven't read it). Some people are CRAZY!
me: That is NUTS
I mean what if someone wrote a casablanca type fic?
GUESS WHAT she does not get the true love there either
geez
mac: I thought so. Blue and I were expecting some nastygrams over the ending of Ultio, but it's been pretty quiet... probably given the nature of the fic.
me: the threats is something that pisses me off
I have seen lots of authors get threats from people because chapters are not coming out fast enough
and stuff
I always say send those readers over to me I have 3 fics that have not updated in a year
mac: I always just assume anyone who is reading fic who is idiotic enough to threaten someone over the ending or their chapters not coming out quickly enough are likely 12 year old girls with nothing better to do.
me: I am not PMing those authors things
TRUE
mac: Over a year, huh? That would make my fingers itch. Hah! I have guilt if I go longer than 10 days. But I'm absolutely anal compulsive and focused on completion.
I probably need medication.
me: probably!
yes 3 of my favs have not updated in over a year
I know the authors are still around I am guessing writers block
if I contacted them I would only ask if there is anything I can do to inspire them
mac: There are 2 fics on my alerts that rarely update, but I love the story so I keep them.
me: pictures
poetry
pictures
nudes
dance sequences
mac: I can't imagine bugging an author for anything.
me: that is only if IF I contacted them
I am notoriously lazy
mac: It took me months to get up the courage to even review a chapter, let alone enough someone
me: I talk to people all the time
I have no fear
what is the worst they can do to me
block me
mac: Heh! I always felt like my reviews were kind of stupid
me: ohhh I'm scared
I sound horribly stupid in reviews
OMG OMG SQUEEE
that was awesome
yeah I sound stupid I know it
mac: But if they're heartfelt, it's all good. And I know I appreciate even the shortest reviews.
me: it gets worse if I have stayed up all night reading a fic
and depending on my alcohol content
gets pretty bad sometimes
mac: Sleep deprivation never contributes positively. Heh!
me: oddly enough when drunk my spelling is better
mac: Hahahaha! That's awesome!
Do you tell your friends and family that you’re an online author with a devoted following, or is this something that you tend to keep for yourself?
mac: No one in my RL knows I write fanfic. My husband knows I'm working on a novel and knows I talk to people in my writing group.... my writing group being my fic friends. ;-p I really am also working on a novel... I just don't feel the need to share, otherwise I might be tempted to censor myself.
me: OH MY
well you will be happy to know you are not alone there are several people who keep their fic life separate from their real life
I am not one of them
even my MIL knows about what I do
and she has asked for recs
mac: It seems like it's about 50/50 in the fandom, don't you think?
me: LOL
I think so
mac: Sometimes you just need something for yourself
Is there a particular character in your story that you identify with the most?
mac: Personality-wise, I'm most like RW Bella, although there are bits and pieces of me in all of my main characters, I think.
Which RL author(s) inspires you?
mac: I'm a huge fan of Kurt Vonnegut. HUGE. And my favorite book of all time is A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving.
I cried like a baby when Kurt died.
me: I understand he was a great writer
I think it was WriteonTime123 that based her fic The Port Angeles Players on one of his short stories I could be wrong
but I seem to remember something like that
mac: I think I read that fic although I can't guess which short story it would be off the top of my head. Hmmm.
me: I forget again I could be wrong
I did that interview a while ago
she is super sweet and her brains are crazy intimidating
I felt like a stammering idiot
LOL
mac: Hah! I'm sure my brains are way less intimidating!
me: we were doing a chat interview with her and OMG I had a couple beers before hand
STUPID
mac: I always sound like an idiot in live interviews, so maybe it's better we did a chat.
me: I sound like an idiot all the time so it does not phase me much
Did any FF authors inspire you? What was it that had you reading FF and thinking “I could do this”?
mac: The first fic I ever read was Dirty Dancing With the Devil Herself by JayJayHale, although it wasn't what made me think I could write a fic. Quite honestly, I'm not quite sure what made me think I could write a full-on, multichapter fic. I've always been a little bit prone to throwing myself into things without quite knowing what the hell I'm doing.
me: LOL that is how I started the blog!
mac: Hey, great things start that way!
me: worked for me it has been almost a full year!
mac: Congratulations!
me: thanks and we now have just over 20 readers!
I am so prouid
up from our original 13
we soon predict to have more readers than staff!
mac: Heh! I'm sure you have way more than that!
me: not really
we are the little blog that thought we could and without Tanja or Hannah this would have fallen apart ages ago they are the wind beneath my wings
Give us a Random Fact about yourself
mac: Random fact.... I was a cheerleader for 8 years.
No one ever believes that.
Don't hold it against me.
me: LOL
I did cheerleading!
in gradeschool
mac: I was bitter about it and only did it because it was a rural town
I cheered in jr high, high school, and college.
I got free books out of the deal in college.
me: I loved it wanted to do it in high school where else can you YELL and get looked at as awesome for having a LOUD voice
mac: My voice does carry. Heh!
me: sadly I was not good at things like tricks or jumping
or doing anything in unison
so
mac: Hah!
me: that ended that
mac: I was pretty tiny in college, so I got toss around a lot. I always really liked stunting.
If you could have 15 minutes with any Edward FF or SMs which one would you choose and what would you do?
(If you do not LIKE any of the Edwards feel to substitute an actor here. Rob, Kellan, PFach or Jackson)
mac: Well, I would definitely choose Kellan above all others... if I had to choose a fic character though.... I really love the Edward in And With Thee I Fade Away.
Oh, and what would I do? I couldn't do much in 15 minutes, so I'd probably just trick whoever it was into smooching me.
Of course, you can always do some dry humping in 15 minutes! ;-p
me: I just read an with thee I fade away LOVED IT
I guess I need to extend the time
mac: Heh!
ok
What is your FanFic Pet peeve?
mac: I have a huge list, but my #1 pet peeve is not having a fic well-betad. Spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. matters. I've heard the argument that we're not professional writers so why should anyone be held to the same standards, but it literally sets my teeth on edge to see homophones confused, commas out of place, and tense mixing. It could be the best fic in the world, but I won't be able to read it because all I'll notice are the mistakes.
me: (Sue is secretly happy she had 6 people beta her 3000 word O/S for the contest you are judging)
mac: Other annoyances: overly flowery, romance novel language; cheesy sex cliches; boring and/or unrealistic sex scenes; unbelievable dialogue
Hah! Yes, and I thank you for it.
me: your welcome
opps
You're welcome
LOL
mac: Dude, this is chat. I won't judge. ;-p
me: Ok
opps
OK
LOL
I have the worlds worst spelling and grammar
and punctuation
mac: That's OK - you have your fics betad!
me: I have had people ask me if English is my first language
mac: Oh geez
me: yeah
I tell them it is worse than that
English is my ONLY language
mac: Your English teachers must be so proud! Ha!
me: They HATED my grammar and punctuation also remember I went to school before computers were used on a regular basis
so I typed all my stuff
and then had friends add punctuation after with a black pen
mac: There's an advantage to not having MS Word correct all your mistakes automatically.
me: well i still use other people who are smarter than I am to correct my screw ups
it takes two people to edit my blog and I burn them out on a regular basis
mac: That's what makes you a smart writer
mac: I betad for Project Team Beta for a while but had to take a break. It's rowing season, so I have a lot of practice time in the summer, but it's easy to get burnt out on the betaing.
me: I bet
What is your Fandom pet peeve?
mac: I don't think I have a fandom pet peeve.
Well, except for myself those douchebags who felt the compulsion to report all those fics on FF for smut a while bag. That was fairly annoying.
me: yeah that was irritating
What did you want to be when you grow up?
mac: By this time in my life, I wanted to be single and dating an 18 year old boy. "Cougar" was not a word in the 1980s, but that's what I wanted to be. I thought I'd be a Pulitzer prize winning writing living in the South of France or something. The reality is quite a bit different. ;-p
me: LOL
OMG what a goal!
mac: For a while, I wanted to be Dr. Ruth
me: like I tell people I wanted to be a lounge singer
because I like sequins and feathers
now I wanna be a movie critic
mac: Hey, nothing wrong with sequins and feathers.
me: and rhinestones
mac: Movie critic would be a fun job
me: screw diamonds!
I think so too mainly because where else do you get paid to sit on your ass eat popcorn and tell people what you think!
mac: Now (I'm 38) I think I'd like to be a kept woman
me: I already am a kept woman
it is not as much fun as it sounds
mac: The hubs needs to upgrade his job. ;-p
me: I'm a trophey wife
mac: Oh, excellent! I'm a little jealous!
Do you have anything else to add?
mac: I don't think so. This was fun!
me: I am glad. I try to make it as painless as possible
