SUE's interview with Hezpixie about her fic Paper Heart

I do not know how I found this fic and after reading it I do not care because it is THAT dang GOOD!

I follow Hezpixie on twitter we chat we giggle

I found out we BOTH live in the GREAT state of Wisconsin
we have loads in common
We share a love of fic
and we like to giggle
and we like unique stories
and Musicals

NOW here is where I talk about the story
Paper Heart
Her Summary:
Bella and Edward fall in and out of love over the course of 5 years. We begin at the end, we end at the beginning, and somewhere in the middle, we realize just how easy it is to lose each other along the way.

This has to be one of the most unique story lines I have ever seen
and you all know that is saying A LOT
The beginning of the story is the end from Bella's POV the next chapter is the beginning from Edward's POV

we see the relationship dissolve and develop throughout the course of the story
you watch Bella fall apart and you see him fall in love
in my head I am reading it and wondering HOW the hell did he go from being so in love to being so ambivalent ?

how did this couple go from being in love to not being there for each other
what happened?
how does love die?

As you can see this is NOT a fluffy hearts and daisies ending It is about the journey it is about the ways love dies

AND NOW onto the interview interspersed with porn THIS is your warning there are some pics in this post that make it NSFW

WHY? because what is a love story without pics of the stages of a relationship?? the kisses the lovin the fights the tears interspersed with random Rob porn and of course a picture of Colin because he makes me SMILE!
Enjoy the interview leave some love AND read the fic!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK you ready to talk fic?
Hezpixie:
Yes I am! :D
me: What was it that gave you the ‘spark’ for your story? Was it a picture? A moment or event? Can you remember the initial inspiration?
Hezpixie: For me, it was the musical 'The Last Five Years', which is the plotline that my story is based off of. It's such a powerful show, but it's different from most musicals because although the lyrics tell a story, it's the bare bones of a story. It's not developed.
me: makes me wanna see it I LOVE musicals
Hezpixie: Me too! You know what happened to the couple, but you don't know the intricate details, and I found myself wondering what had happened in-between the events that the composer talks about in the songs.
Hezpixie: Plus, the way the story is told is so unique. He tells the story of their relationship from beginning to end, she tells it from the end to the beginning, and it's told in alternating points of view, so you get angst, and happy, back and forth, the whole time. My need to delve into their story kept nagging at me.I just had to get it on paper, and voila', Paper Heart was born!
me: It is VERY unique take it from me I have read LOTS of fanfic
Hezpixie: Well I credit Jason Robert Brown with that (he's the composer) and the bare bones outline but all the fleshing out of the storyline is mine! :) Let me tell you, it's a challenge to write it this way!
Do you have a particular process when it comes to your writing, perhaps a certain mood, environment or music? Do you have any ‘triggers’ to get you in the writing mood?
Hezpixie: Ok, process. To tell you the truth, I don't really have a process! I write when the inspiration strikes, which is often, and I write what the characters tell me to write. If I'm working on a chapter and I get stuck, I just move on instead of trying to force it out. For instance, I'm working on chapter 6 right now, and I wrote the ending first. It does help to be in a sad/angsty mood when I write sad/angsty scenes, and the same for happy ones, so I usually wait until I am to write them, if I can. The weird thing about me is this: I cannot write with music in the background, or noise, period. I literally have to lock myself in a quiet room!
me: I would never get anything done if I waited to for it to be quiet here I have 5 kids LOL
Hezpixie: Omgosh woman! I know. I mean literally, I can't even have my dog in there.
I'm like, go away, Kuzco, I have to write now!
He hates my fanfic. I'm sure of it. LOL
me: I m usually writing while directing what goes on in the house they leave me alone for interviews for the most part but if I am talking to someone they like to come by and say HI
Give us an elevator pitch. Say you’re in an elevator with a prospective reader for 2 minutes – what would you tell them about the story?
Hezpixie: Elevator pitch- gah, I've been job searching so I'm used to these lol! I'd say that my story is real. It chronicles the ups and downs of a relationship, from the big picture to the little things (if you can catch them!) It's the story of how, no matter how much two people love each other, sometimes, love just isn't enough. Sometimes, despite the best of intentions, you just lose each other somewhere along the way.
me: Do you picture particular actors for your characters, or are they someone else entirely? If so, who?
this is my not so subtle way to get pics of pretty people in the post
Hezpixie: LOL!
You crack me up
me: what can I say I like good looking men
Hezpixie: Amen! And Rob DEFINITELY applies!
me: any particular ROb look?
please do not say the marroon suit
Hezpixie: Oh no, don't worry. I mean I love that suit, but no.
me: the suit looks like he bought off a guy named guido
Hezpixie: I totally picture Rob and Kstew. I didn't happen upon Twilight until they were already making the movie, so right off the bat I knew who was going to play them, and I never was able to imagine anyone else. I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing! There's this picture of Rob that I always look at when I'm writing though...
LMAO
me: real cheap
Hezpixie: I know. I think he was going for contemporary but it just looked kinda weird. I don't care .Most of the time I'm just picturing him naked anyways.
me: OHH which picture!
most people are
Hezpixie: Lemme see if I can find it.
Hezpixie
That is the Edward in my story.
me: nice
Hezpixie: Idk why, but he has that tortured artist look to me.
This is a silly Q because we know the ending to the fic already but I am gonna ask it anyways
Is the story all planned out or do you do it as a fly by the seat of your pants thing?
Hezpixie:
So the story is planned out, yes. When you read the first chapter, you know how it ends. But other than that, I'm such a bad author.... I don't do outlines or anything. I just write. And then I go back and edit the crap out of it and make sure everything lines up. I mean, I have a general idea of what needs to happen, and what I want to happen above and beyond the bare bones outline, but mostly I just write what comes.
I don't know why, but it just works for me.
me: just curious do you have Beta if so wanna give him/her a shoutout here?
Hezpixie: I do! I've been working with Project Team Beta and I've had many awesome betas, but my BRAND NEW permanent beta is the lovely itsange_ . I bow at the feet of her wisdom! I also have a fantastic pre-reader, AmeryMarie, who does a bit of beta work as well as making sure my plot lines iron out correctly and my characters stay in... well... character. Also, my validation beta on Twilighted is Lumedog7 and she has been kind enough to show me the ropes and offer advice and encouragement. I love them all!
me: FANTASTIC Beta's make the difference between a good fic and great one
Have you got any other projects going on? Any planned for the future?
Hezpixie: No other projects going on at the moment. I'd really like to write some one-shots for some of the contests going on out in the fandom world, but real life is dragging me down at the moment, and I know my faithful readers would rather I focused on Paper Heart. As for the future, I already have an idea for my next story; a comedy, to give myself a break from all the angst. I'm very excited about it!
me: awesome I do love comedies
What was it that brought you to Twilight fanfic? What is it that has kept you here (besides your own writing)
Hezpixie: Gosh, I can't even remember how I ended up here. I know the first fanfic site I stumbled upon was FF.net, and then one of the authors mentioned Twilighted, so I made my way over there, and I was hooked. Most people I talk to remember their first fic, but I really don't. (I know it was good though!) I'm going to get stoned for saying this, but as much as I love Stephenie's books, there is a lot of fanfic out there that I enjoy just as much. It's a way to play with these wonderful characters and this magical world, and get out of your own head for a while. Plus, all of the people that make up the fandom are just wonderful. Every single one of them. Everyone is so kind and supportive, it's just a very positive environment that's fun to be a part of.
OMG WAIT.
I just remembered how I stumbled on fanfic! I'm such a perv. You're going to laugh.
me: looking for something besides the fade to black fuckery that was breaking dawn?
Hezpixie: It was after I read Breaking Dawn and although I understood, I was so pissed at the vanilla sex scenes, and I was like, "You know what, I wonder if someone wrote these sex scenes they way they should be written."
YES!
me: that is a common thing LOL
and it is often how people found fanfic
I do not remember my first fanfic
it has been over a year now
Hezpixie: Me too.
me: and trust me you wont get stoned for saying that many fanfics are better than SMs books
Hezpixie: That makes me feel a little less pervy!
me: she had a great idea that was poorly executed
Hezpixie: I completely agree.
me: so do many
Hezpixie: I mean I LOVED the books. But now that I'm part of the fanfic world? They're 'eh'
me: I have met MANY authors who should be published because their writing is worthy of it
I have read tons of books that are not worth the paper they are printed on
and Fanfics that I wish I had in hardcover form
of course I would talk the author into autographing it for me
Hezpixie: Amen! You know, I've been toying with the idea of writing original fiction. That's another thing that pushed me to write this story; to see what people thought of my writing style.
me: It is a good idea there are plenty of places to go for help with that
one of them is Fictionista workshop
Hezpixie: I just heard about them yesterday, yeah. Good things
.
me: or if you are looking at playing with the idea The Writers Coffee shop has a place for Original Fiction
Do you have a background in writing?
Hezpixie: I don't, believe it or not.
me: a lot of fanfic authors dont
How about your creative self-confidence? By nature writers tend to be a notoriously insecure lot so how are you finding the online writing experience?
Hezpixie: I think that it's hard to say with this story. I mean, I'm working with a bare bones outline of a story that is alreay so near and dear to my heart.
I really am in love with it, and so atlhough I love reviews, it's kinda like, meh, I do it for me. I do it because I feel it, and I connect with it.
Dang hello typos. You know what I meant lol!
me: I do!
Do you tell your friends and family that you’re an online author with a devoted following, or is this something that you tend to keep for yourself?
Hezpixie: A few select people know, but for the most part, no. It's not that I'm ashamed or anything; it's just that none of my friends or family members love Twilight as much as I do! I have to go see the movies alone LOL. So I just keep it to myself. But sometimes when I get review notifications on my iPhone, I squeal a little bit, and my friends think I'm crazy. (They're right, by the way.)
me: LOL
Is there a particular character in your story that you identify with the most?
Hezpixie: Bella, definitely. I see so much of myself in her, and it's crazy, because that's how Jason Robert Brown created his character, Cathy. (This is who Bella is based off of. Try to keep up LOL) Everything, from her insecurity, to her love of theater, to the way she puts everyone's needs in front of her own, is just like me, and that's how JBB wrote Cathy originally. Bella's dirty sense of humor, though, is alllllll mine. :)
me: cool
Which RL author(s) inspires you?
Hezpixie: Jodi Picoult! Side note: have you ever read her?
me: no I have
not
Hezpixie: Her stories are just.. gah, they're amazing. She's so meticulous, and she writes about incredibly controversial issues, but she really jabs you straight in the heart in the midst of the technicality of the story.
For instance: A woman who is a criminal defense lawyer, with a young son. She spends her life fighting for leniency in courtrooms for sexual predators. And then her son is molested.
It's like, what do you do? She brings up some tough issues, and really makes you think about them, and see the other side.
me: neat!
I do not think I could about a kid being molested
having kids that kind of thing is hard for me to read about
Hezpixie: I know. It was rough, and I don't have children. But that's just one.
me: Did any FF authors inspire you? What was it that had you reading FF and thinking “I could do this”?
Hezpixie: To be honest, every fic that I've read inspired me in some way. The more I'd read, the more I was like, "Okay, I can do this, too." And the more I wanted to be a part of it. I think what really pushed me over the edge was Hydraulic Level 5 by gondolier. Her story is so poignant and well written, and I wanted to write something that wonderful, too.
me: I LOVE HL5 really great fic
What advice would you give to an aspiring fanfic writer?
Hezpixie: ENJOY IT! Try not to get discouraged if you don't get a lot of reviews. Write your story for YOU; it makes every single review and recomendation that you receive that much more rewarding.
Oh, and, get a beta. Project Team Beta has been invaluable in helping me to get on my feet, and they connected me with some great mentors. I'm forever greatful.
me: Give us a Random Fact about yourself?
Hezpixie: When I eat anything (M&M's, bites of an apple, etc) I have to stop at an even number of pieces or bites. I swear, I'm semi-OCD.
me: semi? LOL
teasing
If you could have 15 minutes with any Edward FF or SMs which one would you choose and what would you do?
If you do not LIKE any of the Edwards feel to substitute an actor here. Rob, Kellan, PFach or Jackson or my personal favorite Colin.SIGH(taking a moment to contemplate Colin) any actor at all really
Hezpixie: Colin! LOL!
me: I LOVE COLIN FIRTH(RANDOM COLIN PIC JUST BECAUSE)
very very much
Hezpixie: I love him in Bridget Jones but I've never seen P&P
And I love him in Love Actually, too. Major swoon!
me: OMG he has been in so many movies !
Hezpixie: I'm so sorry, is this your longest interview ever? I feel horrible I'm such a wordy bitch
me: the next one I am gonna get with him in it is one where he has a 3some with Kevin Bacon
WOOOHOOOO
Hezpixie: LMAO
Oh that's priceless
me: and no this is not the longest interview I had one that lasted 5 hours
Hezpixie: Holy shit!
me: both the author and I were drunk
it was fun
Hezpixie: LOL then it was totally worth it
me: most last around the 2 hour mark
unless I get chatty
Hezpixie: Oh man my mouth is watering now thinking about beer
Okay. Any Edward. I'm stalling.
I gotta look at my fic list gimme 1 sec
me: k
Hezpixie: Ok it's a tie. Between the Edward in Edward Wallbanger by feathers_mmmm and Bad Habit by AmeryMarie. Both of their Edwards are just.. hot.
me: agreed!
that they are
What is your FanFic Pet peeve?
Hezpixie: (Thank you for not making me answer the 'what would I do with them' part because I don't think it's appropriate for this interview. Ahem.)
me: oh you can tell me what you would do with them
COME ON
Hezpixie: LOL
me: For Walbanger
I would
ummm
have him teach me to mix drinks
yeah
that's it
in the hot tub
and I would wanna listen to records with him
I have glass 78s from the 40s
Hezpixie: DAMN. That's hard core.
I would def want to be in a hottub with Wallbanger. We could... talk. Get to know each other. (wink)
As for Bad Habitward, I'd take him to the meadow and... birdwatch.
Glass 78's? I've never even SEEN one of those.
me: oK infant next question
LOL
What is your FanFic Pet peeve?
Hezpixie: Ah yes. I have a few. Boring, traditional storylines and characters drive me nuts. Jessica/Tanya as the bitch, Alice loves to shop, Rosalie is mean, Emmett is stupid, etc etc. I mean it's okay to play into the canon but it's so exaggerated in some fics it makes me queasy.
me: yeah break outta the box
or book in this case
What is your Fandom Pet peeve?
Hezpixie: I don't think I've really been a part of the fandom long enough to answer! I've heard of some drama but I haven't experienced any, so it hasn't affected me. Flamers can go to hell though
me: LOL
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Hezpixie: My secret desire is to be a Broadway actress, to tell you the truth. But I haven't had much time to even do community theater since college, unfortunately. My other passion is for event planning. I'd love to be an event coordinator in any venue. I live and breathe for planning and fine tuning the details!
me: neat ideas!
well there are TONS of community theaters in your area I know I used to be a part of them
EONS ago
when dirt was new
Hezpixie: Oh shush silly! You are NOt that old lol!
me: well it was a life time ago
before kids
OK last Q
you ready?
it's a biggie
Hezpixie: Yes but I want to know more about your theater stuff!
me: Anything else you would like to add?
Hezpixie: As
corny as it may be, I just want to thank everyone who has given my fic a chance. Like I said, I have a very emotional connection to this story, and it means the world to me that others can connect with it and enjoy it as well.
