Undiscovered Gems

Disclaimer: Please note that we from SYTYCW haven't read the stories we mention in Undiscovered Gems (at least not all of them). This here is mainly an opportunity for authors to pimp their stories. =)

WHY should I (the reader) read your story?
My story is about finding inner strength, letting go of past regrets, and finding love despite fear. It begins in 1996 with Bella and Edward meeting on a college campus at a concert for the band Líve. They have an intense and immediate attraction, despite coming from very different backgrounds; Edward has been a very sheltered and well-behaved teenager, while Bella has grown up wild and reckless. They lose track of each other at the concert because of circumstances revealed later in the story, and when they find each other again in 2009, neither recognizes the other. As adults they are once again intensely drawn to one another; Bella’s vitality is the spark which brings Edward out of the doldrums of his boring life, and Edward seems to be the panacea to wounds from Bella’s past.

Where did you get inspiration?
My actual inspiration for ‘The Ride’ came while I was taking a spin class. I started thinking about how great it would be if, for once, there was a story where Bella could really kick some butt! I also imagined what Bella and Edward would be like if they were my age; would they look back on the 80’s and 90’s as a time they loved? Since Canon Edward spent a lot of time feeling like there was no point to his existence, I imagined him as a 30-something who was bored with his job, regretting choices he made in his youth and looking back on his 20’s as a time where he felt free and alive.

What do you think is the BEST thing about your fic?
I think the best thing about my fic is that people can relate to it; not only through the way the Canon Edward and Bella relationship translates into real life, but also because of all the musical references which draw the characters together. They both share a mutual love of post-grunge alternative music from the 1990’s, and song lyrics from bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Stone Temple pilots are sprinkled throughout the story. Since many FF readers and authors have lived through the 1980’s and 1990’s, the many references I include to bands we’ve all grown up with and loved help readers connect to the story.

The Disillusioned by Phoenix Rising, on Twilighted

Summary: Soon after Bella Swan moves to Forks to live with her father for her senior year of high school, she begins volunteering at Forks General Hospital.  There, she meets Edward, a young man her age whose past is complicated and future is uncertain.  AU, canon pairings, characters are somewhat OOC. Rated for language, violence, and sexual situations.  No rape or cutting.

WHY should I (the reader) read your story?
You should read my story because it's not your typical "Bella and Edward" tale. It has tons of mystery, well-developed characters, and a delicious slow burn between the two of them which will keep you coming back for more. Oh, and it has vampires and there will be juicy yellow citrus fruits later.
Where did you get inspiration?
I was inspired to write this because most of the stories out there where Edward has a mental illness go in a very dark direction.  This story isn't all sunshine and daises, but my Edward isn't a homicidal maniac, either. I wanted to write something where Bella falls in love with him for who he is, even with the twists and turns along the way, and no matter the outcome.

What do you think is the BEST thing about your fic?
I think the best thing about my fic is the intrigue. I've gotten a lot of awesome feedback saying that the reader has been sucked in and can't want for more so they can find out what's going on.
